if you don't get the hole and the dowel aligned just right, you're just going to push the cam back into the block. Cam Position Sensor : The camshaft position (CMP) sensor picks up it’s signal through the reluctor wheel which is at the rear of the camshaft itself. Timing that is set outside the parameters of the capability of the engine may cause severe damage to the engine. Both overlap & CR are related to the reqd burn time for most efficient combustion. But it isn’t good, the bits from the tensioner can be scattered around the engine. You can literally take a bone stock coyote and tune it to sound "cammed," or take a fully blown Comp cams, cobrajet manifold, long tubes, whatever and tune it to idle smooth as stock. Most late model EFI systems that also control the ignition timing also offer a feature where you can add or subtract ignition timing–let’s say four or five degrees-to help stabilize the idle.
